Welcome

We warmly welcome worshippers from near and far, seeking strength through our traditional form of worship. Visitors to the area, and children of all ages, are always welcome.

The church is open every day to enable all to visit this superb Grade-I listed building – dating in part from the 11th century – which contains many fine artefacts, in addition to numerous memorial plaques from various periods, and important stained glass windows; the restoration of one of these windows has just been completed.

  Location

St Mary the Virgin is an ancient, small church at the centre of the Stopham Estate, between Pulborough and Fittleworth, within the South Downs National Park. Its peaceful surroundings, overlooking the Stopham Vineyard, in the heart of West Sussex, together with its wonderful history, combine to make this a very special place in which to worship God.

  Our Worship

Worship has been held continuously in this beautiful church for over 1000 years and we uphold this tradition by following the 1662 Book of Common Prayer for every Sunday service, whether Holy Communion, sung Morning Prayer or sung Evening Prayer. Please join us as we joyfully celebrate this rich past.
